About Tripoli

The city known as Trablus is Libya’s capital and has witnessed many wars throughout history. Located in the northern part of Africa, Trablus is along the Mediterranean coast and is an important trade center due to its harbor.

Because the temperature is around 40°C during summer months, the ideal time to visit this city is considered is winter.

Because this city is on a plain and, along with its city center, has many places to see that are close in distance, this city is ideal to be travelled on foot. Public transportation vehicles are old and overcrowded and because of this are not recommended, however you can always find a taxi easily. Tell the taxi driver your destination beforehand and be sure to bargain if possible. Also, make sure you bargain while shopping around the city, as especially the tourists are given higher prices. You can shop at the great bazaar.

Falafel is the most popular food locally and is a tasty snack you can find at almost every street corner. Be sure to try it. On the other hand, locals consume a lot of tea, mostly mint tea and you may see many tea gardens around the city.

Trablus Castle, Archaeological Museum, and Green Square are of the places you must visit before you return. In addition, Turkish citizens who want to visit this city do not need to get a visa.

Transportation to Tripoli City Center from Airport

Tripoli Intl. Airport

Tripoli International Airport is not close to the city center. There is also no public transport from the airport. For this reason, you may want to ask to be picked up from the airport if you know someone in Tripoli. If you do not have someone who can pick you up, you can rent a car or take a taxi. Most of the hotels also offer airport shuttle service for extra fee.

Taxi

It is possible to reach the Tripoli city center in an average of 30 minutes by taking a taxi from the front of the airport. However, you should definitely agree with the taxi drivers about where you will go and negotiate the fare.

Car Rental

If you rent a car, you must go straight north on Airport Hwy to get to the city center from the airport. The journey takes about half an hour. Be careful especially at night when driving in the countryside, because many animals such as camel, cow, and sheep can come out on the way.

Hotel Shuttle

Almost all of the limited number of accommodation centers in the city offer airport shuttle service. You can request a shuttle service to the airport in advance. Just remember that there is another airport in the city and make sure that your hotel understands which airport you will be going to.
