About Valladolid

Valladolid is the capital of the Autonomous Region of Castille and Leon, in Spain. Valladolid, the city where Christopher Columbus died, was also home to the writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, of Don Quijote fame.

Valladolid, one of the major economic centers of Spain, is particularly successful in the automotive sector. A Mediterranean climate is seen in Valladolid with the effect of a cold and semi-arid climate. The winter months are windy, cold and almost always foggy. Snowfall is also common. The summer months are fairly dry and the temperature is measured around 30 degrees. The castle town of Castille is still a very old settlement and still retains its historic texture. For this reason, walking around the city's beautiful streets is a unique pleasure. Valladolid Cathedral, San Pablo Church, Santa Maria La Antigua Church and Santa Cruz Palace, all located in the city's old town, are must-see points of interest. Walking along the Pisuerga River is also a favorite activity in the city of Valladolid. Mereras Park next to the river is also a nice area for both watching the scenery and relaxing.

Seafood has an important place in Valladolid cuisine, but the most traditional dish of the city is a lamb dish known as "lechazo" which is cooked in heavy wood fire. Valladolid is also very successful when it comes to its local wines.
